Cold pressing denotes a process of oil extraction in which the raw material is mechanically pressed without notable external heat input.
In the context of Styrian pumpkin seed oil: traditional Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI is not a cold-pressed oil in the technical sense. Before pressing, the milled mash of seeds, water and salt is roasted. Some producers offer unroasted, cold-pressed pumpkin seed oils; they differ clearly in colour and aroma from the roasted Styrian product.
