Plutzer

Glossary

Plutzer is an Austrian regional term for a typically round to slightly flattened culinary pumpkin (often Cucurbita maxima), primarily used for its flesh.

In the context of Styrian pumpkin seed oil: The Plutzer is to be distinguished from the Styrian oil pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca) – the latter is cultivated for its hull-less seeds and oil pressing. "Plutzer" is part of everyday Styrian vocabulary surrounding pumpkin cultivation, but does not refer to the oil pumpkin fruit type itself.
